Salute to Stan Laurel aired in color on CBS on November 23, 1965 and briefly featured Fred Gwynne in character as Herman. The hour-long tribute to Stan Laurel, who had died earlier that year, was hosted by Dick Van Dyke and featured comedy skits with Lucille Ball, Danny Kaye, Buster Keaton, Tina Louise, Audrey Meadows, Bob Newhart, Phil Silvers and others. Gwynne's appearance occurs during a skit with Tina Louise and Cesar Romero in which Herman busts through the door playing a fiddle.
